How we handle (and do not store) data on this stateless site, in POPIA-appropriate terms.
This privacy policy has not been reviewed by an attorney. It describes our stateless data posture and analytics consent practices as implemented at launch.
Overview
DemeritCheck is a stateless educational website. We are committed to protecting your privacy by not collecting personal information in the ordinary course of using the calculator. This policy describes our data posture in terms appropriate to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
What we do not collect or store
This calculator is stateless. We do not ask for, collect, or store:
- South African ID numbers
- Driver's licence or PrDP numbers
- Vehicle registration numbers
- Offence or infringement history tied to a person
- Accounts or login credentials (Phase 1)
Data you enter in the calculator stays in your browser for the current session only. We do not operate a lookup against RTIA, RTMC, or traffic-enforcement databases. Do not enter personal identifiers — they are not required to use the calculator.
Server-side processing
Phase 1 is a static website. Calculator inputs are processed entirely in your browser. We do not transmit offence selections or totals to a server for storage or processing.
Technical data
Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) in server access logs. We do not use this information to identify individual users or link it to calculator inputs.
If you opt in to analytics (see Cookies below), we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect aggregated usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location (country or city), device type, and referral source. GA4 does not receive calculator inputs or personal identifiers you might type into the calculator. IP addresses are anonymised in GA4 configuration.
Cookies
The calculator does not set cookies for functionality or user accounts. Non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) load only if you click Accept on the consent banner.
You can decline these cookies, or change your mind later, usingin the site footer (or on this page). Declining or withdrawing consent stops new analytics and advertising cookies from being set; previously collected data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements on this site. AdSense may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads and measure performance. Ads load only after you accept cookies on the consent banner. You can learn more about Google advertising and opt out of personalised ads via Google Ads Settings and Google's advertising policies.
AdSense does not receive calculator inputs, ID numbers, licence numbers, or other personal identifiers you might type into the tool. We do not sell personal information.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal information through the calculator, there is typically no personal data held by us to access, correct, or delete. If you contact us by email, we will handle that correspondence in line with POPIA and retain it only as long as needed to respond.
Third parties
This site is not affiliated with RTIA, RTMC, the Department of Transport, or any government body. Links to external sites (such as the Government Gazette) are provided for reference; their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
When you accept cookies, usage and advertising data may be processed by Google LLC (Google Analytics 4 and Google AdSense). Google's processing is subject to their terms and privacy policy.
Changes
We may update this policy when site functionality changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
