Corrections
A public process for fixing mistakes. Publishers who care about trust fix errors in the open — we do too.
If something on DemeritCheck disagrees with the pinned gazette, misstates enforcement status, or breaks the calculator, tell us. We would rather publish a correction than leave a confident wrong number in circulation.
How to report
Email hello@rabbitholedigital.co.za with:
- The page URL (or charge code)
- What you expected vs what you saw
- A primary source if you have one (gazette notice, proclamation, judgment)
You do not need to send ID numbers, licence numbers, or personal offence history — and we ask you not to.
What we correct
- Data — Schedule 3 points, wording, classification, or missing/extra codes relative to the pinned extract
- Calculator logic — pending/final totals, threshold maths, share URLs
- Copy — enforcement caveats, learner/PrDP threshold claims, outdated dates
What we will not “correct” into existence
- Unconfirmed demerit go-live dates from news headlines
- Separate learner or PrDP point ceilings not in regulation 20(6)
- Legal advice about your specific notice
- Changes that would make us look like an official RTIA or eNaTIS service
How we handle a confirmed error
- Triage: data vs calculator vs educational copy
- Fix against the primary source; bump dataset pin if the gazette extract changes
- Note the change on Updates & sources when it affects legal or data claims
- Reply to the reporter when practical
Target for clear gazette mismatches: acknowledge within a few business days and ship a fix in the next ordinary release once verified. Complex proclamation questions may take longer because we read the instrument before we change the site.
