Demerit point values are taken from Schedule 3, column 6 of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Regulations, 2026 (GN R.7646, Government Gazette 54922). This is an unofficial summary for convenience; verify code 1209 against your infringement notice and the official gazette.

Code 1209 (Reg. 35(4)) is an AARTO infringement: number plate on the rear with letters and figures of 60 millimetres, whilst 75 millimetres would have fitted the illuminated space, or a number plate which was not the size of the illuminated space provided. It carries no demerit points, though the underlying fine or penalty may still apply.

What this means for your demerit total

Code 1209 carries no demerit points under Schedule 3. You may still face a fine or other penalty for the underlying conduct — demerit points are only one part of the AARTO framework. Use the calculator to model other charges that do carry points.

Classification: infringement. Category: Vehicle registration and number plates. Browse the full offence points table or read how demerit points work.
